Some of our favourite Sports WomenRebecca Adlington
Rebecca is a British freestyle swimmer. She won two gold medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing in the 400 m and 800 m, making her Britain's first Olympic swimming champion since 1988, and the first British swimmer to win two Olympic gold medals since 1908. Now aged 20, Rebecca began swimming aged 4 and competing aged 10.
Eleanor Simmonds
Eleanor is a British Paralympian swimmer who has achondroplasia. She won gold medals in the 100 m and 400 m freestyle events at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing. She won the 2008 BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award and at 14 is the youngest person to have been appointed an MBE.

Shanaze Reade
Shanaze is an Olympian, having competed at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. She is also the current UCI Elite World BMX Champion, a title she holds for the second time, and was twice a world junior champion on the BMX. Shanaze is also World Champion in the Team Sprint with Victoria Pendleton, holding the world record in this event.

Arsenal Ladies
Founded in 1987, Arsenal Ladies Football Club is the most successful in English women's football, having won 31 major trophies to date. Not surprisingly Arsenal Ladies' youth teams dominate the various competitions across the south east in which they take part.
Bethany Hamilton
Bethany’s parents began putting her on a surfboard as a toddler. By age 7 she could surf without their help, and at 8 years old she began competing. She was attacked by a tiger shark when she was 13, and lost her arm. Determined as ever, Bethany returned to the waves just three weeks later. Refusing special treatment in competitions, she has won first place in the NSSA National Championships and is now a professional surfer.
Kimberlee Jay
Kimberlee became a star because of Nike dance spots. Thanks to her, Nike won over a mass of female fans for showing that girls of all shapes and sizes are athletes too.
Isa Guha
Isa is a member of the England Women’s Cricket Team, who have just one this year’s world cup. As the first Asian to play for the women’s team, Isa had a tough choice at her debut when she was 17 and played against India, the country her parents are from. Isa also has a biochemistry degree from UCL.
Alice Powell
Still too young to hold a driving licence, 16 year old Alice Powell learnt to drive a car at just 5 years old. Following in the F1 footsteps of Lewis Hamilton, schoolgirl Alice recently became the youngest ever driver in the Formula Renault Championships
