Lauren Child
Creator of Charlie and Lola and Clarice Bean. Lauren wrote her first books in 1999 and since then has gone on to write and illustrate many books. Her characters Charlie and Lola are now animated on tv, and we particularly like her girl characters Lola and Clarice, who are interesting, bright, thoughtful and a little bit naughty. Not a princess...in site.

Diana Athill
Diana was born in 1917, and was awarded an OBE in 2009. She won the Costa Book Awards at the age of 91, which we think is a marvellous thing, considering that women of a certain age are increasingly invisible in any sort of public life.

Zaha Hadid
Is from Bahgdad in Iraq, and is the worlds most influential female architect. She has built bold and visionary buildings around the world. In 2004 she won the world of architectures equivalent to the Nobel Prize, known as the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the first woman ever to do so.

Christiane Amanpour
Christiane joined CNN as an entry level assistant in  1983 and is now their Chief International Correspondent, covering major news events from around the world including Afghanistan, Somalia, The Balkans, Iran and Israel. her body of work has earned her many awards, and she received and CBE in 2007 for her 'highly distinguished, innovative contribution' to the field of journalism.

June Sarpong
June Sarpong was one of channel 4's most successful presenters. Since leaving the channel she has gone on to write a blog for women about politics. She was famous for her interview with Tony Blair, 'when Tony met June' in 2005. She runs her own production company as well as being an ambassador for The Prince's Trust.
